Really old dog, new tricks findings?
I’m looking forward to the findings from this excavation at the Lima Zoo in Peru. 1000-year-old dogs were buried with humans (126 humans and 128 dogs) and they were discovered beneath the zoo. There appears to be a variety of breeds. One interesting thing that I learned is that some pre-Columbian Peruvian cultures believed that dogs escorted humans to the afterlife.

I don’t know about the Peruvians, but I’m definitely taking my dog with me. One or the other of us is going to have to wait. I bet that the Native cultures in South America would have been at least similar to those in North America. It seems that it has been only recently that there was any information available on Native American tribes. What is available is interesting, but limited.
